Leasing questions answered

Car leasing is essentially a long-term rental. You pay a fixed monthly fee to use a vehicle for an agreed period, typically 2–4 years, without owning it outright. At the end of the lease, you return the car.

Yes, fleetlee offers both personal and business lease options. Business leases may provide tax advantages, while personal leases are simple and hassle-free for individuals.

An initial rental (sometimes called an initial payment) is the first payment made at the start of a lease agreement. It contributes towards the overall cost of leasing your vehicle and helps set the structure of your monthly payments.

The initial rental is usually calculated as a multiple of the monthly rental, most commonly 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. This amount is paid upfront, followed by fixed monthly payments for the remainder of the agreement.

Choosing a higher initial rental can reduce your ongoing monthly payments, allowing you to tailor the lease to better suit your budget.

Leases come with a contracted annual mileage. Exceeding this may result in additional charges at the end of the lease. Mileage can often be adjusted at the start to suit your needs.

Yes, free UK mainland delivery is included to your home or workplace. Vehicle collection at the end of your agreement depends on the type of contract you’ve taken. The finance company will arrange collection of the vehicle when the contract ends.

Yes, your credit score can affect your lease application. Finance providers use credit checks to assess affordability and risk, which helps determine whether a lease can be approved and on what terms.

A stronger credit history may give you access to a wider range of vehicles and more competitive pricing. However, if your credit score isn’t perfect, it doesn’t always mean you can’t lease, there may still be options available depending on your circumstances.

If you’re unsure, the fleetlee team is happy to talk through your options and help find a suitable solution.

Yes, we offer a wide selection of cars: petrol, hybrid, and electric. For in stock deals, vehicles are ready for quick delivery. Custom orders can also be arranged for specific models and specifications.

This depends on the type of contract taken but usually, at the end of your agreement, the finance company will arrange collection of the vehicle when the contract ends. You may have the option to extend the contact (dependant upon the funder). We will be in touch ahead of the end of your lease to discuss your options with you.

Pros -

  • Lower monthly payments: Leasing generally offers lower monthly out-of-pocket costs compared to financing a purchase, as you only pay for the car's depreciation during the lease term rather than its entire value.
  • Continuous warranty coverage: Because lease terms usually last 2 to 3 years, the vehicle is almost always covered by the manufacturer’s bumper-to-bumper warranty, minimizing your risk of unexpected repair bills.
  • Hassle-free upgrades: When the lease ends, you can simply drop off the keys and drive home in a brand-new model without the headache of selling a used car or dealing with trade-in values.

Cons -

  • No Ownership or Equity: Your monthly payments go toward using the vehicle, not buying it. When the lease ends, you must return the car and will have zero cash value or equity to trade in for your next vehicle.
  • Mileage Restrictions and Fees: Leases come with strict annual mileage limits, typically between 10,000 and 15,000 miles. Exceeding these limits can result in costly penalties, often ranging from 15 to 30 cents per extra mile.
  • Wear and Tear Charges: You are responsible for keeping the car in excellent condition. When you return it, you may face significant financial penalties for excessive wear and tear, such as interior stains, exterior dents, or deep scratches.
